Why would my crane need inspection?
The OSHA requirement is that all active cranes are to be annually inspected. The continues usage puts wear on important crane components. This wear can lead to breakdowns, or even worse, an unsafe and dangerous failure that puts your business or your team at risk. Regular inspections can help to prevent potential problems and address these issues before costly parts are required or a dangerous issue occurs!
Who is actually qualified to inspect my crane?
According to (CMAA) Crane Manufacturers Association of America, Crane inspectors are required to have at least 2,000 field hours of experience directly related to the maintenance, servicing, repairing, modifying and functional testing of cranes and hoist equipment. CMAA states – under no circumstances should an individual perform inspections if they have not received appropriate training and do not have knowledge of the applicable codes and regulations for the equipment.
How often would I get my crane inspected?
According to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), there are four categories involved with overhead crane inspections: Initial, Functional, Frequent, and Periodic. The following excerpt is from OSHA 1910.179: “Prior to initial use all new and altered cranes shall be inspected to insure compliance with the provisions of this section.
